As I opened my bank application, I was not very happy happy with what I saw? Could this be? I slammed by phone on the table and walked away.
For many of us, the idea of saving money is a hard concept to understand. Sure, we can put money in the bank can call it savings but let’s face it, most of us are not prepared for what is to come whether it is being laid-off of work, retirement, or career transitions. In this piece, I am going to briefly cover three strategies that I use daily to help my family save money. These are by no means revolutionary ideas but I thought I would share.
- Wealthfront: Wealthfront is an online investment vehicle that uses technology to help its clients invest and save. You can earn more interest on your cash, get advice on how to manage your savings, and automate your investments at a low cost. I have my companies SEP IRA through them and I have a Roth IRA and multiple savings plans. Since there are no physical locations, they can offer higher percentage on their savings.
- Mint: Mint is a budgeting software that is brought to use by Intuit. It is free to use and it allows you to monitor all of your money in one place. It allows you to see all of your bills at a glance, create budgets, and my favorite- track spending and spending habits. It is amazing to see how much money we spend on fast food as a family of five. I check my mint app every single day.
- Viv: This service was a game changer for me and can be a game changer for you. Viv is a service that will negotiate your essentials bills such as cable, cell, internet, security, satellite and low your monthly bills. All you have to do is just upload your bills, fill our your information, and the Viv negotiators will begin working on your behalf. I have personally uploaded my internet and cell phone bills and received a great savings. This has opened up thousands of dollar of discretionary income for many families and business and in my opinion is a no brainer. Don’t let the large companies over charge you for services that others are getting for 50% cheaper. (Full disclosure- I am an Pro Consultant for Viv.)
Regardless of how you save your money, it is time to get started and begin using the resources that are available to you. The day’s of “no one told me” are over and it is time to take accountability. These are just a few examples, of what I use, that I have provided. Begin your wealth journey today. FYI- now when I open my bank application, I am proud of where my family and I sit and are looking forward to the future.
